With legendary heavyweight Junior Dos Santos returning to the Octagon, one must look at why he is fighting 3 months earlier than his initial ban allowed... and why exactly this situation should create more attention to the mistakes of USADA and its offspring.
Junior was accused of taking a diuretic as trace amounts were found in his system. A one year ban and the removal of his appearance with possible title contention was the punishment, but it became more clear that this was truly unjust. The diuretic found in Junior's system was in such trace amount that it could not mask any anabolic being used, and the samples found in the same lab he used since 2014 was found to have 3 more positive samples when tested over the span of a year.
USADA allowed JDS to return to fighting due to the error of their ways, but it is still a catastrophe for the numerous fighters accused and punished with no redemeption. Even past abusers like Josh Barnett seems to have been clean for years, but USADA found traces of PEDs in his samples and banned him from competition although the same lab he's been using provided many positive results. For fighters trying to create a legeacy and leave on a good foot, USADA can stain fans minds with accusations that may be completely and utterly false.
I feel for JDS, but USADA has also done a lot of good.. and in fact JDS was a proponent of USADA before he got caught. Sometimes you never know who is taking performance enhancers, but as the sport evolves, so will the drugs. Jeff Novitzky is the guy that caught Armstrong, and now he's catching my favorite fighters... meh, what can ya do when everyone else is cheating? It's a hard one to deal with, but USADA needs to shape up.
