Just got home from taking my wife to the worst hockey game I've ever seen. Two bad teams faced off tonight and one of them decided they didn't even need to bother showing up. I've never seen such a pathetic display from a professional team in my entire night. I'd like to be able to pick out a few positives but tonight they just didn't exist.
Even my wife, who is not an avid hockey fan, was pointing out the complete lack of effort the Oiler's put on display tonight. I don't think I've ever seen a complete shutdown like that from the start of the game to the finish. The poor Oiler's never even put up a fight.
Tonight is the first time I'm embarrassed to be an Oiler's fan. And I've seen this team toil through an entire decade of futility, where they never once made the playoffs. I've seen this team failed so bad they ended up with three first overall picks in a row. I've been there while the Oiler's were the laughing stock of the entire league. But tonight was the most embarrassing excuse for a hockey team I've ever witnessed in my life.
Fans began leaving in the middle of the second period en masse. I've never witnessed that before. Sure I've seen people leave in the third period during a game that's a blow out but during the second period? Never not even once.
This season has been such a huge disappointment after such a great season last year. I can't even begin to wrap my head around it.
Sorry for the rant but I really needed to get that off my chest.
