One fight to watch other than the main event is Marlon Moraes vs. Aljamain Sterling. East coast fight fans, especially those that have followed MMA for a while know this is basically a New Yorker versus a New Jersey native. Sterling is representing New York being from Long Island and Moraes is part of the crew that trains with Eddie Alvarez. Don't expect too much beef or trash talk between the two as those camps sometimes cross train together.
Mark Henry has coached Eddie Alvarez and Chris Weidman, with Weidman being part of the Serra/Longo team of fighters. That team has strong ties to Renzo Gracie's academies too with Matt Serra being a black belt under Gracie. The east coast MMA scene is pretty strong and most fighters from the region have trained or are very aware of one another's skill set. So Moraes and Sterling could be a pretty good match-up between the two.
A win over Moraes for Sterling could be big as it would make him a true contender at bantamweight if he beats a former WSOF champ in Moraes. If Moraes wins, he rectifies his entrance in the UFC since he is technically 1-1 there after losing a decision in his promotional debut with the UFC and relinquishing his WSOF title when he left that promotion.
The main event needs no hype as both men are riding some deep hype in the UFC. What fights are you looking forward to? Also, between Sterling and Moraes, who do you think wins?
