A week ago I posted a video I cut, basically a road trip music video featuring my brother's song When We Met. I mentioned that I had downloaded an app called YouCut and that I was teaching myself to make "movies".
What I neglected to say is that I had a purpose for the sudden interest in videography: Making movies of my son Ethan's Arm Wrestling Tournaments and journey.
He has been working so hard! After a loss at the state fair, he set out to figure out where he was going wrong. His strength certainly wasn't the problem, and definitely not his drive...
It ended up being the positioning of his body, particularly for the set up and start. Once he saw the problem, he worked on a solution with his father- and once he found that, he's been practicing it religiously- along with his strength and flexibility training, and some aerobic thrown in for good measure.
The flexibility training was inspired by a question he had a few years ago when he first began the journey: Why is it that veteran arm wrestlers can't fully extend their arms?
If you've ever seen a man who looks like they're perpetually holding a barrel, even when they're just standing or walking- that is a veteran arm wrestler. And the reason for it is that most of them sacrifice flexibility for strength. Working on just what gives them more power, neglecting the very crucial stretching that keeps a person limber.
Anyway, ten days ago he was in his strongest fighting form with a new technique he was burning into his soul...and then he caught a nasty cold. He lost seven pounds in seven days. But that didn't stop him from training, and it wasn't stopping him from taking on this tournament. If nothing else, every competition is a learning experience.
So at the tale end of a sickness smackdown, we set out for Easton Pennsylvania and the Fall Brawl.
Will he pull it off despite the stuffed head setback? Check out the video to find out!
In my next post I'm going to show you some of my video editing journey. I have a long ways to go to be professional, but I'm pretty proud of how I've come in just a week!
(I'll also probably make some YouTube shorts of the actual matches, for those who can't find the time for a ten minute video;-)
Hope you're having a great week Hive Peeps, and remembering it is in your power to make it so!
