In the recently concluded 2017 Cincinnati Masters Cup or commonly called, 2017 Western & Southern Open, Simona Halep would have claimed the No. 1 WTA Tennis Ranking if she had beaten the recent French Open Champion, Garbine Muguruza, at the finals.
However, Muguruza stayed dominant all through-out the finals, winning the title at 6-1 6-0 against Halep. This title is the second WTA trophy of Muguruza this season after winning the French Open title a month ago.
Also, this is the third time or opportunity for Halep to claim the No. 1 ranking and is only one win away but luck wasn't on her favor. As the say, third time was not the charm for Halep. After the tournament, Halep is only 5 points behind the reigning No. 1, Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic.
