Hello everyone!
In my last post I was so enthusiastic that I forgot to introduce myself haha, my name is Jouri Vennix and I am a student living and studying in Eindhoven ( The Netherlands). I am 24 years old and I am almost finished with my bachelor degree in Small company management. My greatest passion and hobby is sports! It doesn’t matter if it is abseiling, football, martial arts or giving a body blast class in the fitness centre. I currently work in a fitness centre were I try to inspire everyone with my positive vibe, it helps that I’m always smiling:)!
Like every boy in the Netherlands it is common to play football at a young age. I’ve been a striker (the guy who scores goals) my entire life. At first people thought I was too small to be a good striker, but if people doubt me I get the burning desire to prove them that I can do it! I even played a year semi national league so I proved them wrong! Nowadays I play in a team with my friends but I don’t feel satisfied anymore, training became boring and I didn’t get tired anymore.
I needed a new challenge in my life and that challenge became: Muay Thai !!
Approximately 9 month ago I started training at Muay Thai Academy Duran Gym in Eindhoven. Duran is the name of the teacher, or as they say in Thai: Khru. A really relaxed guy who is also always smiling! As a fighter he is very technical , he spots every misstep you make and that is why you improve really fast. Muay thai is not mindless pounding on each other. It’s a strategic game where you try to outthink your opponent with your fists, elbows, knees and legs. He teaches to always have respect for anyone! A great example of this is that at the end of every lessen we make a line and shake everyone’s hand including the Khru’s for the lesson.
(Me performing a kick to the body, could still improve if i open up my hip more)
And I’ve set a goal to motivate myself even more. January 2018 I will enter the ring, I will have my first fight in Muay Thai and prove myself that if you want anything in this world badly, you can achieve this! In the first 9 months the training has been rough! Sore legs, bruises and a headache is monthly routine since I started! My physique is adjusting to my new sport: my pumped up fitness body didn’t had the stamina and the speed that was needed, I lost almost 12 kilos in 9 months and feel more alive than ever! I train up to 5 times a week in the academy and try to train up to 4 times with weights to improve even more.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog, I will update on anything that I come across such as the food I eat, the training I do and the way I like to spend the time that I am not training!
