There is a good chance that one of my basketball friends tore his ACL tonight, again.
He played college ball here in Kentucky, and was a standout all 4 years. You watch highlights of this guy and often it is a flash from one side of the court to the other. Believe me, it is annoying to guard him.
All jokes aside, what keeps reverberating in my mind is the sight of him clinching his knee a few hours ago, and grimacing as he says, “not again, not again.”
There is a good chance he can come back to play since he is only 23, but any athlete knows that the mental game is there forevermore. You always have that thought in the back of your mind about being injured.
I’ve had some close calls myself this past year. I rolled both my ankles in one night and had to crawl around the house the next day. The desire to play and compete is not gone, just a growing frustration with sin and prayers for the kingdom to be restored in full.
