I am not saying that Lamar Jackson is the greatest quarterback to ever play the game of football (yet), but I do want to make a case for him being the best quarterback of his play style. We've seen multiple versions of the scrambling quarterback in the fifty seasons of the NFL but none have had quite the effect on the game that Lamar Jackson has had. Some of the best scrambling quarterbacks the league has seen include Michael Vick, Donavon McNabb, and Randall Cunningham. All three quarterbacks were great and were able to change the game in different ways, but arguably the best of the three was Michael Vick.
Although Michael Vick changed the game and broke Madden in his prime, his thirteen NFL seasons are easily being outshined by Lamar Jackson's first two seasons. In Vicks BEST season, he only threw for 3,303 yards and ran for another 589 yards. With Jackson already on pace to have his best season this year, he has a total of 2,258 passing yards and 781 rushing yards with six games left to play. This comes with 225.8 passing yards per game and 78.1 rushing yards per game through 11 games. Simple math shows that if he continues on this trend, and averages anywhere near those numbers he will have just over 3,600 passing yards and around 1,250 rushing yards. These numbers outshine Micheal Vick as well as any other dual threat quarterback in the league currently or that the NFL has ever seen.
With this only being Jackson's second year it is hard to talk bad about his performance. If the second half of the 2019 season treats him as well as first half did, there is no way he doesn't have the best season the NFL has ever seen from the quarterback position. This fountain of youth can only lead to positive things for his career and the Baltimore Ravens franchise. The only thing that stands in the way between him and the Hall of Fame is injury. If he can avoid the injury bug, there is no question in my mind that he will be ONE of if not THE GREATEST quarterback to ever play the game of football.
