Goodell signs 5 year contract extension
Sources close to the situation are reporting that the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell are close to finalizing a 5 year entersion, which would ensure Goodell would stay in his position thru 2024.
Roger Goodell took his position as Commissioner on September 1st 2006, taking over for the retiring Paul Tagliabue. Since taking the reigns of the billion dollar enterprise, Goodell has been "walking on water". Revenues have nearly tripled to $14B annually including a 75% increase over the last 7 years. While Goodell's ROI for the league isn't quite the return one could have gotten investing in Bitcoin 7 years ago, it's still pretty darn impressive.
While Goodell has made the NFL owners plenty of money to buy Lambo's and Rolex's, he has made MULTIPLE highly questioned decisions while at the helm of the league. Events such as #deflategate, the information on CTE and the institution of the Player's Code of Conduct, are just some of the issues that many believe Goodell handled badly while Commissioner. Some also wonder if a majority of his legacy is a result of perfect timing and taking over a business model the previous regime had put an extreme amount of thought and investment toward.
