It is the height of all irony that Stanton, baseball's premier slugger, vetoed trades to the Giants (close to home), Cardinals, and others, only to turn around and accept a trade to the Yankees that got much less in return than the other teams were offering. Something Stanton kept saying during the trade talks was that he wanted to play in the field, effectively snuffing trade talks with AL potential teams. Interestingly enough, his list of approved trade teams was Astros, Cubs, Dodgers, and apparently, the Yankees. Of the 4, none would be considered likely, since the Astro's just won without him, the Cubs were never that interested (from what I understand), and the Yankees were trying to get below the tax penalty in order to avoid paying so much luxury tax. However, Stanton veto's the Giants and Card's proposals and suddenly he is a Yankee over night. I can't help but smell a snake.
