Micheal Dickerson was an promising NBA talent. He could leap with the best of them, score the basketball and was a solid NBA defender as well. After winning the NCAA basketball championship with the Arizona Wildcats, he declared for the 1998 NBA draft. He was drafted with the 14th pick by the Houston Rockets. He had some early success as a rookie shooting 43 percent from three (6th in the NBA), double figure points per game average (11 ppg), and named to the All Rookie 2nd team. Unfortunately, his stay in Houston was shorten due to the Steve Francis trade that sent Dickerson to the Vancouver Grizzlies (1999-00). In his first season with the Grizzlies, Dickerson had his best year as a pro scoring 18 ppg, 3 rbs and 1 stl. Very good for a second year player.
So why did this talented NBA player's career never progressed to the NBA star level? Sadly, injuries derailed Micheal's career early (2001-2003). He was never able to capture the success he experience early in his career. Severe hamstrings and groin injuries force him to retire from the NBA after the 2003 season. We will never know how great of an NBA career Dickerson could have produce. Nevertheless, I appreciate the memories he created during his 5 year NBA career. Best wishes to Micheal and his family.
