It's been a whirlwind week here at SportsBlock, and we wanted to take a moment to share what's been happening behind the scenes (and in front of them). The short version? We've been heads down, shipping improvements every single day, and the platform is evolving fast.
Let's get into it.
🔥 Sportsbites Are Taking Off
When we launched Sportsbites — our 280-character quick takes feature — we hoped the community would enjoy having a space for real-time reactions and hot takes. What we didn't expect was just how much you'd all embrace it. The engagement has been fantastic, and it's clear that sports fans want a fast, focused way to share their thoughts during live action.
That enthusiasm has directly shaped what we've been building.
Inline replies now expand directly on Sportsbite cards, so conversations flow naturally without jumping between pages. We've polished the compose editor with a word count display, fixed line breaks that were being stripped out, and sorted an issue where uploaded images were appearing twice. The Following tab is now working properly too — so you'll actually see posts from the people you follow.
Doing Right by the Blockchain
Here's something we're particularly proud of, and it's worth explaining for those familiar with how Hive works.
On Hive, short-form content platforms typically use "container" posts — a parent post that holds all the individual micro-posts as replies underneath. Some platforms allow these container posts to earn rewards, which means the platform itself is extracting value from the Hive reward pool without actually producing content.
We've chosen a different path. SportsBlock declines payouts on all Sportsbite container posts. Only the actual replies — your Sportsbites, your thoughts, your takes — are eligible to earn rewards. We're not here to game the system. We're here to make sure the people creating the content are the ones who benefit from it.
⚽ Live Match Threads Have Arrived
Off the back of all the Sportsbites energy, we've taken things a step further and introduced Live Match Threads. These are dedicated discussion spaces that are automatically generated for major sporting events — think Premier League fixtures, Champions League nights, Six Nations weekends, UFC cards, and more.
The idea is simple: when a big game is on, you shouldn't have to scroll through a general feed to find the conversation. Match Threads give you a focused space to react, debate, celebrate (or commiserate) in real time with other fans who are watching the same thing.
Every Sportsbite you post within a Match Thread is a Hive blockchain transaction. That means every reaction, every hot take, every "I told you so" moment is stored on-chain and eligible for rewards. It's like a Reddit game thread, except you actually earn from your contributions.
We've ironed out some early wrinkles too — events now show up well in advance rather than just two hours before kickoff, navigation back to the match threads list is smooth, and we've resolved issues with certain sports (like tennis and golf) that had different data structures causing crashes.
🏆 New Sports Added — You Asked, We Delivered
Our community has been vocal about what sports they want to see on the platform, and we've been listening. We recently made a major upgrade to our sports data infrastructure, switching to a more robust API that lets us cover a much wider range of disciplines.
Here are the new additions, all driven by community feedback and popular demand:
♟️ Chess
🎱 Snooker
🎳 Bowling
🏑 Field Hockey
🏐 Handball
🥋 Martial Arts
🎾 Padel
🥎 Softball
🏅 Olympics
These join our existing coverage of football, rugby, basketball, American football, MMA, cricket, motorsport, tennis, golf, baseball, and more. We've also added tag aliases for the Six Nations (so whether you tag your post sixnations or 6nations, it all ends up in the right place).
Whatever your sport, there's a home for it on SportsBlock.
✍️ A Better Writing Experience
For those of you who prefer long-form content — match previews, tactical breakdowns, transfer analysis, season reviews — we've put serious work into the publishing experience this week.
The editor now includes a word count and improved read time estimation, so you know exactly how long your post is before you hit publish. We've added a mobile preview toggle so you can see how your post will look on smaller screens. HTML support has been expanded — you can now use centered text, embedded images, and even iframes in your posts for richer content.
One-click image uploading is now live, making it as fast and seamless as posting on PeakD. We've also fixed a mismatch where the interface was allowing up to 10 tags but Hive only supports 5 — that's now consistent, so no more failed posts from too many tags.
Small things that make a big difference to the writing experience.
🔄 Reblogging, Richer Comments, and Better Engagement Tools
You can now reblog posts to your own Hive blog directly from SportsBlock — great for amplifying quality content you want your followers to see. The action bar on posts has been decluttered and now shows voter counts, and the voting modal has been cleaned up with better stats and clearer delegation labels.
Comment modals have received a rich toolbar — bold, italic, emoji picker, image upload, and GIF support are all available when you're replying to posts. No more plain text limitations when you want to make your point with a bit more flair.
🔐 Smoother Logins, Fewer Headaches
Authentication is one of those things that should just work, and we've spent time making sure it does. We've fixed an issue where Hive user sessions were silently degrading to soft logins, meaning some users were unknowingly losing their full blockchain capabilities mid-session. That's now rock solid.
HiveSigner mobile login has been fixed, and we've resolved redirect issues with alternative login methods. The feed no longer flickers on login either — it's a smooth, clean transition into your personalised content.
📊 Monetisation and Sustainability
We've integrated Google AdSense into the platform as part of our long-term sustainability model. Ad revenue feeds directly into our buyback mechanism — purchasing MEDALS tokens from the market and permanently staking them, creating deflationary pressure that benefits all token holders. You're not just seeing ads; you're seeing the platform build value for its community.
Our analytics have been improved too, with Sportsbites now included in the sidebar metrics, and we've resolved issues with trending sports data that were causing gaps in reporting.
🌙 Polish, Polish, Polish
Dark mode has received attention — primary colours are now properly visible, and text readability has been improved across the board with better contrast handling. The landing page has been updated to accurately reflect the current MEDALS staking tiers and benefits as outlined in our whitepaper. Community pages no longer throw errors, and we've implemented a muted authors system for content moderation.
The discover feed now properly filters by sport, feed thumbnails are extracted more reliably, and ghost posts have been eliminated.
Dozens of small improvements that collectively make the whole experience feel tighter and more polished.
🛤️ The Road Ahead
We're building SportsBlock for the long haul. The full platform launch is coming in April 2026, and between now and then, we're focused on expanding our curator team and refining the MEDALS reward distribution system, growing the community through partnerships and coverage of major sporting events, continuing to add features driven by community feedback — predictions, leaderboards, and more engagement tools are all on the radar — and exploring AI-assisted content curation and community management to help scale quality as we grow.
The MEDALS token is live on Hive-Engine, staking is active with weekly rewards, and liquidity pools are available on Tribaldex. If you haven't already, now is a great time to get involved.
