Are we bracing up for African’s Cup of Nation’s thrilling encounter betwixt the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Desert Foxes of Algeria?.
This is definitely going to be a highly intense encounter as both teams would be looking to book a space in the final of the African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria is aiming to win their fourth continental title while Algeria is seeking to win their second. Both teams possess wonderful and brilliant players ready to hurt the opponents at any slightest opportunity evidence of their run up to this semi final stage of the competition.
Nigeria has had to see off the indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 and South Africa in the Quarter final while Algeria saw off Guinea in the round of 16 and Ivory Coast in the quarters.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr would be hoping to outsmart Algeria 4-1-4-1 formation with his favourite 4-2-3-1. This will be a battle of the midfield with Ndidi and Etebo of the Super Eagles battling it out with four or five of the Algeria’s midfielders.
This in turn means there would be space for pacey wingers Ahmed Musa and Chukwueze to create enough dangers from the flanks, whichever would be the case, and we should be expecting a mouth-watering encounter.
Rohr has shown that in the course of the latter stages of the match, he is lacking tactical solutions to problems encountered by his players. One example of such inexperience is the substituting of winger Ahmed Musa who has been a thorn in the flesh of the South African right wing for Moses Simon.
I expected that substitution to come with a tactical adjustment provided Moses Simon has neither the speed of Musa nor the experience of getting past his marker and that left Chukwueze and the left wing the only effective attacking position for the Super Eagles.
Against Algeria, this might prove costly for they are in possession of players who are willing to exploit any afforded space or opportunity by the Super Eagles.
With this much been said, I expect the Super Eagles to come out of this one with a win tomorrow as we match forward to lifting another continental trophy since 2013.
