After 89 days since the conclusion of EPL season 2018-2019, the new season has finally started last night with a match between Liverpool and Norwich City. As a Liverpool fan, I am so delighted to say that Liverpool won 4 - 1.
Liverpool started strongly once the referee blew his whistle, as they attacked Norwich relentlessly and was awarded with an own goal by Grant Hanley as early as the 9th minute. By the end of the 1st Half, Liverpool is leading 4 - 0 courtesy of 3 more goals from Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Divock Origi.
The second half commenced and Liverpool still not content with the 4 goals lead. They wanted more, but bad finishing from Liverpool, and great defending from Norwich frustrates the Liverpool side. Norwich's goalkeeper Tim Krul was so outstanding, making numerous of saves to minimises the damages.
Norwich was gifted a consolation goal after Teemu Pukki cleverly cleared the offside trap and beat Adrian (who replaces the injured Allison Becker) with a low drive to the bottom right corner of the Liverpool goal.
Conclusion, Liverpool was really good when attacking, but there is still rustiness and lacks of awareness when defending from the midfield and the defence. The players really need more time to improve their level of understanding with each other when defending before the next matches. No clean sheets tonight.
And for those who thinks Norwich City will be steamrolled and are one of the early candidate for relegation, you will regret for betting on it. They are a bunch of decent good footballers that might surprise everyone, just like how Wolverhampton did last season. In my opinion, their star striker Teemu Pukki will manage to score more than 10 goals this season. It is still early to tell where will they end up by the end of the season, but I am really sure that they won't be relegated.
