Don’t you just hate it when NFL refs get a call wrong so bad at the end of the game that it ends up costing your favorite team a win? Well that has happened to my Denver Broncos TWICE in the first 5 weeks of the season and helped us off to a slow 1-4 start.
What is roughing no the passer you ask? Well who knows at this point because flags are litteraly being thrown several times a game if you even look at a quarterback with the stink eye!
The basic rule says a few things about roughing the passer:
#1 Do not touch the QB anywhere on the helmet. This means your little pinky finger can’t even graze his face mask even if one of the blocking lineman push you into him.
#2 Do not ever hit a QB below the waist, even if your tripped by a lineman during the play.
#3 Do not land on the QB with your entire body weight after you made a legal hit for the sack.
#4 Do not make fun of the QB’s mother in law.
This call actually cost the Kansas City Chiefs a shot at hoisting their very first Lombardi Trophy. Brady got this pass off with no issues but his face mask was barely touched and it resulted in a new set of downs and 15 penalty yards.
This phantom call cost the Broncos a win in week 2 win only :31 on the clock and the lead. Bradley Chubb did nothing wrong on this play but the red threw a flag and that 15 yards really hurt because two plays later the Bears kicked the ga,e winner and broke out hearts.
This call didn’t cost the Raiders the game but it was flagged just because the defensive player landed on top of Derrick Carr after this totally legal hit. I mean stop the madness NFL!
Look the NFL game is brutal and people (fans) want to see big collisions during the game. If we wanted to see soft rules and weak hits it would be much easier and cheaper to hit up a Friday night high school football game.
Theses are the modern day gladiators and blood thirsty fans want nothing more than to see pretty boy quarterbacks with a face full of mud and grass. I understand how valuable QB’S......today more than ever with the new rule changes and the games propensity for 350 yd 3 TD passing attacks.....but come on man, I paid huge money and I wanna see crunching hits that squirts the ball loose.
With the rules today, guys like Montana, Elway, Marino could have played until they were 60 I think.
