What's up basketball fans! I am here again to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about how happy Marc Gasol was after the Memphis Grizzlies traded him to the Toronto Raptors! Let's start!
Marc Gasol is now an NBA Champion after the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals. Gasol spent 11 seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies before he was traded by the franchise to the Raptors. Memphis was his home for almost his entire career and he developed into one of the best centers in the league in Memphis where he became a three-time all-star.
And as the Memphis Grizzlies start their rebuilding process, they traded their superstar big man even if he desires to stay. Gasol has really no intentions at all to leave Memphis but the franchise decided what's good for both sides.
“There have been few players that haven’t been traded over the years in the NBA. If it had been depended on me, I wouldn’t have been traded. I always thought I could reverse the situation there [in Memphis] and bring the team to the top. But, thank God, they ignored me,” Gasol said to reporters in the Antiga Fabrica Estrella Damm in Barcelona, per the Europa Press news agency.”
Marc Gasol was one of the key pieces in their championship run against the Warriors. His outside shooting and inside the paint plays were crucial. And all throughout the playoffs, Gasol contributed important numbers that help the Raptors come out of the East and make it all the way to the Finals. And at 34-years old nearing retirement, Gasol tasted a championship before he laces em up.
