Sprint has announced, it will roll out its 5G mobile network in the first half of 2019. Sprint is already working with Qualcomm on 5G technology along with a South Korean company which has already a 5G device in the works for Sprint’s network.
Though its a positive news, but it shows Sprint would lag behind its rivals AT&T and Verizon, as both mobile carriers have said they have plans to start 5G coverage later this year. Another thing is the use of technology as Sprint is using different technology from Verizon or AT&T. Both the other companies are relying on millimeter spectrum, which provides fast speed within a limited service area. Sprint is on a different page about this technology as they think this technology isn’t practical for building a nationwide network coverage.
When it comes to prices, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said, we are planning to raise rates for unlimited service from $50 and $60 to about $70 and $80. No doubt, Sprint’s coverage has improved over the past three years, but it still lags behind its rivals and only time will tell how could they manage 5G network to win this battle.
