THEME: DRAGONS
No, not Trogdor despite all his majesty.
Revised THEME: DRAGONS (of Splinterlands)
My Choices
and
Why Brighton Bloom?
She is the Redbull of Splinterlands, she will grant your monsters wings. This increases the likelihood that they will dodge a non-magical attack but also avoids the damage of the earthquake ruleset.
Why Serpentine Mystic?
AFFLICTION! Not the clothing line but the ability. These two cards go together like peas and carrots because, at least in Silver and Gold, a heal or double heal combo is pretty common so having a monster with Affliction is rarely a bad idea.
What is Affliction and how does it work?
When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed. 50% chance of applying Affliction on the target.
Small aside, lets share the list of monsters/summoners with Affliction.
this screenshot would not be possible without the wonderful website that is Splintercards Abilities
Now you could try and tell me that Undead Archer would be a better choice but I would argue only in a mana pinch since one less hit point and ranged in place of magic are both drawbacks. Also, we are he for the dragons, Undead Archer is clearly not a dragon.
My Battle
Ruleset: Earthquake and Trample (pay attention to the first and disregard the second at minimal risk)
Mana: 17
Splinters: All but water and earth
My opponent had superior card level but with no flying monsters they were simply hoping to outlast me while healing through my damage and trying to wreck me with that legendarily surly Unicorn. What they had not anticipated was me bringing Affliction and flying.
Two important things happened in Round 1. The first was that Affliction got applied on our first hit on Oscar the grouchy Unicorn. Second, due to monster speeds and order of events, appropriately truculent Unicorn took 4 damage. This is important as Serpentine Mystic will be dead before Round 2 is complete.
I could continue the blow by blow but you dont need that so feel free to watch the replay here, Dragons Battling. It's remarkably short for a match where 30% of the monsters heal.
When the theme is an individual card I usually try to remark on how much I like or dislike the card. But in this case the theme is an entire Splinter so I will remark on how the quest for the Dragon splinter is my favorite of all the splinter quests.
