I don't always wait until the first of the month to PowerUp, but do it whenever I have a quantity of liquid Steem on-hand which I have not ear-marked for any specific purpose (like prizes for a contest, etc.).  Conditions were right this month, so I did the PowerUp on 01-01-2020 for #spud9, as the following screenshot from my Wallet on Steempeak shows:
