Memorial weekend is when the Flea Markets open in Northern Michigan and I wouldn't miss them for anything. Here are a couple of my favorite things I scored over the holiday.
Silver War Nickels
From 1942 until 1945 the US produced it's nickels made with 35% silver. The nickel was used for the war as armor plating and it was easier to make them out of Silver. I got 20 Silver Nickels and 2 V Nickels for $25. Not the best deal but I don't have many left and rarely see them. Check these out.
ALPS FunBug
This is my absolute favorite find I've had in a while. I love old VW toys and pick them up whenever I can. This one is a 1972 ALPS FunBug toy. It was made in Japan and is in the original box. This thing is badass!!!
I'm really digging the FunBug!!! Still need to put some batteries in it and see if it works. If it does a video will be coming soon. LOL
Another crazy thing we ran into
This little fellow was hanging out near our camp. It was the first time I've seen one of these around here. Can you guess what kind of snake it is???
We don't have any venomous snakes in Michigan, but this one had such a flat diamond shaped head. It looked like some kind of Viper. After a Google search when we went to town, it was revealed this is a Eastern Hognose.
They pose no threat to humans but do hiss pretty loud when you get near them. That is how they got the nickname "The Hissing Viper". Luckily they mainly eat toads and frogs. If they get really scared they play dead.
That's all for today. Tomorrow I'll be showing some of my less favorite flea market finds.
