It is said ignorance is not a virtue. Ignorance makes people proud, but I'm yet to meet a person who is proud because he is ignorant. Everybody hates ignorance, we like to parade ourselves as knowledgeable and wise, but the truth is everyone of us is ignorant in some ways. And this is the first knowledge each one of us should have and accept this truth.
Is ignorance a curse?
Ignorance is bad because it locks people out of life, out of opportunities and out of progress and success. I'm not talking about school, but knowledge. You may have knowledge without schooling and the opposite is also true. In life information & knowledge come first schools and education come later or may never come at all to some people. Without knowledge your mind is crippled to see, because the mind as it own eye, to think, imagine and to decide. Even your physical eyes see more when your mind is informed.
People miss out on great great opportunities in life because of ignorance. There's a proverb in Uganda which says; Because of the darkness a cockroach was able to sleep under hen's beak. This proverbs shows two things, first the danger dared by a cockroach to sleep under hen's beak, just because the cockroach was ignorant of the presence of a hen because of darkness. It was a big risk to the cockroach, but it was ignorant. That's what ignorance does to us in life.
Second, it was a missed opportunity to the hen, this cockroach was a cheap meal. But the darkness blinded hen's sight, it was ignorant that a fat cockroach is under its beak napping. This is also another curse of ignorance, missing out great opportunities in life. Ignorance makes our lives unproductive in so many ways.
