This is the National Stadium
We had a tragedy today at the National Stadium in Tegucigalpa, 4 people died when they were crushed by an avalanche of people who were trying to enter the stadium to watch the final of the national football league, over 20 were injured.
We have a problem people get out of control and try to force their way in and the security forces are not prepared for this, resulting in hordes of people pushing and shoving and something has to give this ended in a tragedy today.
Now we have many people questioning the football authorities for letting the game be played somehow I think this was the best thing, already inside the stadium there were about 22,000 people, if they were told about what happened and the game was being suspended we would probably have had more trouble.
I looked up other instances of tragedies in football stadiums and in many of them the game was played, I guess the most famous is the Heysel Stadium tragedy in 1985. It is very sad because these tragedies are completely avoidable, for example people have to learn to use the queue, the authorities have to have plans in place so entering a venue can be done in an orderly manner and I guess there are other things that can be done, prevention is what we must look for.
Anyway I am hoping these kinds of avoidable tragedies can be reduced to zero, it is sad that people who are going to enjoy a game have to have these things happen to them.
