This is an open ended question and not really directed at anyone per se, but there are some users I see actively selling anything and eveything they earn constantly. It just makes me think.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand some people need whatever they earn here and that's one of hive's strengths in my opinion. I've posted about this before, especially when things like KE were introduced and the discussion surrounded them. I have nothing against people who sell because they need the hive - as long as the reward they're earning are coming from legitimate value generation. I.e. if you're providing value to the hive network (can be objective of course), then fine, sell as much as you can.
But even if you are in need of the rewards, it begs the question how some people may not be thinking long term about it.
Maybe I'm the odd one out who cares too much about growing my stake here?
It's been years now since I've mostly stayed powered up on this account, and hey, for sure that's not been the best way to go about it in terms of tactics for acquiring more hive power. All those little power ups every now and then averaging the price down end up still being quite too high when the token just plummets further and further. But it begs the question even more that "how are you selling at these prices?"
Like, we know hive works, similar to other blockchains, it works. There's never been a halt of the chain, there's never been some weird hacks caused by the security of the blockchain itself, etc. Just because Hive chooses to reward regular users for 65%+ of its inflation compared to miners who have to back it up with hardware they've purchased or electricity they've spent doesn't mean it doesn't work or that it's any less secure than other networks.
The fact you're earning what you sell proves that it works, and you're selling most of your stake for 5 cents per token?
It just boggles me some times.
I'm mostly talking about people who've already been here quite a long time, there's some serious capitulation happening and it's not just from traders on exchanges. I'm seeing some well reputable people sending hive to exchanges on a daily basis.
Why wouldn't you want a secure income of Hive over longer periods of time over risking trading off all your stake and potentially never getting it back?
Like, that's scary to me. I've traded Hive away in the past, I'm not denying that, but every time I've done so my attempts have been to purchase more in the future, but alas that hasn't worked out too great lately - especially when I've had to invest a lot into my own projects here rather than HP itself.
Selling something that's taken me years to obtain with the risk that I can never get back that stake is super scary to me, scarier than holding onto stake and thinking it's going to go to "0".
Is that what some of you think of hive, that it can go to zero? Or are you just tired - which is understandable as well.
Dunno, as curator it some times pains me seeing some people just leave and get rid of all their stake because one of my goals has been to help distribute inflation far and wide so it helps the decentralization of the network.
There are definitely a lot of people who've still held onto their earnings and grown or bought more, which is great to see and aids decentralization of the network, but there are also many who just get rid of it. It's like they don't respect their own time and effort they've put into acquiring it.
Or maybe the issue is that some of us are getting the stake way too easily thus it bears no meaning or worth to us in its current form, so we sell it at any price. I'm sure there's many of you out there as well, and I hate to say it but it is kind of a weakness in proof of brain and the things we've allowed to exist and prosper around here while at the same time demonizing good downvotes which further more encourages the former to keep happening.
Maybe all that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things either.
I don't know, guess after all my recent posts a rant had to be one of them eventually.
It's just sad some times to see some people you thought better off give in and sell their stake to whoever's buying it on exchanges at these evaluations. I'm sure sooner or later more of us will have to give in, maybe it's just the way of the markets and the same is happening everywhere, here we just have usernames available to each transaction so it feels a bit weirder.
Oh well, I'll keep stacking for now while I continue to eat away at my reserves as long as they last me, hopefully the next wave of people I end up curating are more interested in being around and here for the long term rather than seeing most run off like there's a virus on chain trying to eat their stake.
