A 27-year-old woman in Italy has been placed under house arrest after months of stalking and threatening her ex, even when under a restraining order wearing a tracking bracelet. She sent him messages like:
I’m a woman, I can ruin you even if you’re right.
If you don’t answer, things will get ugly for you and your family.
The only way you’ll get rid of me is by killing me, or killing yourself. Or we do it together.
She stalked his house, threatened to damage his car, publicly posted death threats on social media, and contacted him multiple times without regard to the legal order for her to stop.
After weeks of violating restraining orders, she was finally arrested. Just imagine if the genders were reversed and a man did this to a woman. This is a large part of why men also don't feel safe reporting abuse. It is also part of the reason the notion that women "can't be dangerous" is not only wrong but wrong. Abuse is abuse. It is not gender-specific. I am just glad someone in the justice system acted, even if it took too long, it is not okay.
