I might have mentioned a few times that i am a huge Star Trek fan. When i say huge, i mean that ive watched all the series multiple times with TNG and DS9 sharing the first place for best series of all time! hehe.
So naturally im extremely interested in Star Trek Discovery. Im not going to go in depth about the series and what not, the controversy, the average to bad first season, but rather id like to talk a bit about the second season that is already 2 episodes in.
As i said above the first season was somewhere in-between bad and average if i was looking at the show as a "critic". But if i was looking at it as a Star Trek fan, i cant say it was anything other then bad.
A few episodes stood out as passable and a few characters, but the plot for the most part had so many holes, so many awkward decisions were made, so many stupid non-star trek moments happened, that for the majority of season 1 i was pissed off at the show runners.
Im going to say it openly... Season 1 simply sucks on all levels.
Moving on....
Season two started last week and i was going to give the show another chance even though i shouldnt since they killed off the only character i actually liked. The evil captain played by Jason Issacs.
But they replaced him with Anson Mount as Christopher Pike so i guess thats ok...
Right off the bat with season two, all the characters i forgot about during the break came back on screen, breaking my self created illusion that i wont have to see them again...
I just cant stand most of them... The cast for most part are a bunch of uncharismatic, unconvincing, socially awkward, beta, pita bread eating weaklings.....
I feel like im watching a bunch of leftist college campus protesters and body positivity/diversity advocates playing Star Trek..
Its weird..
When i remember Picard standing up in front of that bridge screen and holding a speech, or... Who doesnt remember: THERE.... ARE..... FOUR..... LIGHTS! i cant be anything else but dissapointed.
This season Alex Kurtzman took over as showrunner and hes probably the last guy i would want heading Star Trek. He is one of the worst, if not the worst, high end writer/producer/director currently employed in Hollywood.
You need only to look at his recent work to understand why im saying that.
But, fine... Everyone deserves a chance.
The first episode of the new season was simply awful.. Incredibly boring and forgettable. If i had to talk about right now, i probably couldnt remember anything.
Well i can remember that the main character of Michael Burnham was obnoxious as always. At this point, when she opens her mouth i cringe. I put my hands over my ears not to hear her talk and squint so i dont have to see her face...
I dont remember when i disliked a Star Trek character this much...
The second episode (S02E02) was a great improvement, which shocked me so much that i had to check how the feel of the episode improved so much.. And what do you know... Jonathan Frakes directed the episode.
This episode almost had the "Star Trek of old" feel to it.
Ofc. Jonathan couldnt do wonders since STD already has stupid decisions embedded as a part of the overall show, but he did best he could and for most part did it really well...
I really do hope they manage to continue in this direction for what its worth. Still... after watching the show for the whole first season + 2 episodes i cant not wonder if they have duck-tape in space to use and tape Michael Burnhams mouth shut.
I was seriously considering not watching after the first episode this season but episode 2 had some redeeming qualities so i will stay tuned at least for a little while more. Im not sure if i can recommend this show to anyone at this point since im still not sure if this is a good TV show, Star Trek aside....
Time will tell....
Live long and prosper, and ill see you around...
