Hello everyone! o(≧▽≦)o
So recently, makes a new art challenge “Musical Retro Wo-Owl” for #steem-cartoon community~
Truthfully, I’m not in the best condition to do anything at the moment as I caught a fever from my dearest brother… (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

About Retro Songs:
• Retro Songs can be songs that capture an era from your youth, or a pivitol time from your life. Often they can be that bubblegum pop you heard non-stop as a child.
• Retro Songs can make you relive a moment, a day, an evening, a summer, or even a lifetime.
• Retro songs sometimes speak only to you, or peers, sometimes a bygone era.
When I think about retro, George Michael and Bee Gees immediately come into my mind. Maybe because both of their songs are on my playlist and I will never get bored listening to them.
Then I remembered “Interstella 5555”. I really love their songs and also their cinematic background story and I thought that’s pretty retro. Also, I’ve been into with retrowave/synthwave songs recently and I remember that their cover background is often filled with neon colour arts.
Moving on, here’s my entry for the challenge and I also include a step-by-step process of my art.
Step 1: Sketch
I start my sketch using a traditional media first before scanning and transfer it into Photoshop.
Step 2: Digital Refining
I added a round glasses (because it looks so retro) and also draw the guitar strap on the character shoulder.
Step 3: Lineart
As usual, I use purple colour to create my lineart and halfway doing them, I realize the guitar position looks a bit weird so I redraw it.
Step 4: Base Colour
I’m not a big fan of neon colour so I planned to use the brightest colour as possible and crank up hue/saturation after I finished with shading.
Step 5: Shading
Honestly, I thought this is gonna turn out bad but after I done with his skin, hair, eyes and mouth, it looks more bearable to look at (thank God!).
Step 6: Overlay
As usual, I abuse overlay layers here and there.
Step 7: Saturation
Increase the colour saturation by +15.
Step 8: Final Adjustments and Background
I make a really simple background using neon colour gradients and also sparkles. My first intention is to place a disco ball behind the character but I think it looks too weird. So I scrape it and instead place a neon sunset to replace it.
GIF Process
I do hope everyone enjoyed my art and as well the making process~
Peace Out!
