Designing a Superhero
We are so used to watching Marvel and DC Comics and now with Avengers : Infinity Wars there is this Superhero bug going around infecting everyone. So my university appointed me to be one of their ambassador and part of the organizing team for a contest for students from the neighbouring schools. The target are students are the age of 16 and 17 and the theme is to come up with a Malaysian themed superhero.
I kinda know I am in for a surprise and usually such surprises are pleasant surprises because when creativity is not limited by norms, you tend to see many infusion of imagination and that is most delightful. Sometimes I cringe when people tell me that art must have some basic idea or a certain set of guidelines. I believe that is only true if you want to learn a specific method or style. But it is not true when the freedom to roam and explore is given.
First, there was the briefing session where the theme and what we reasonably expect from the participants. The criteria for judging and of course the prizes.
So basically the hero has to possess the following qualities
- Kind
- Courageous
- Resilient
- Confident
- Has an identify (through costume or otherwise)
Then the brainstorming starts.
Their job is to create a 3D model.
I like the idea that most of the superheroes are almost thematic. It is like living a particular persona and it is a good concept to adopt.
Then the winner gets Ringgit Malaysia 2000. Which is something like 100 Steem.
They even came up with their own backdrop to fit into the theme. I salute them for it. Since we have the full facilities and infrastructure, might as well make the entire project appear EPIC!
Now imagine this, a superhero that can summon a cyclone/tornado that is entire made up of aluminium foil. Creative?
