Frustratingly I put about 30 minutes into a post yesterday and about 1 minute after I submitted it to Steemit it went completely missing! Although the content of the post was quite controversial, I suspected that it being removed was a technical issue more than any kind of censorship and indeed that appears to have been the case.. Here I will help explain why this occurred and what to do about it.
Today's top tip!
ALWAYS, Always and all ways write your posts in a word processor or text editor that has an autosave feature - outside of your browser. There are at least two ways that you can be annoyed when you write your posts directly in the Steemit editor:
- You can accidentally click 'Post' by pressing the enter key in some circumstances and end up with an empty post in your timeline that also means you are closer to your daily limit of the 4 posts that can be made without resulting in a reduction in payouts.
- If your post goes missing then you have no way of recovering the content unless you first drafted it outside of Steemit.com.
Why do posts go missing?
Apparently I am not alone in my problem and recently there have been more and more cases of posts and comments going completely missing from Steemit. Thankfully posted yesterday a fairly detailed explanation of why the posts go missing, but sadly he confirms that there is no way to recover your posts once they are gone:
Which word processor to use?
Any Application that can autosave your work and which will effectively recover your work in the event that your computer or the App itself fails will be good enough. I suggest using a free and libre / open-source application such as Libre Office, which is a free equivalent suite of apps that replaces Microsoft Office and is highly functional.
Love! Ura.
