Mid last year we decided to sign up for JMC (Junior Music Class) at a Yamaha center.
believe strongly in Yamaha program because of their solfege singing. where I came from, everyone sings in solfege with or without music background so I didn't think it is a big deal until I came to KL for my music degree.
Long story short we registered him after his trial class because he enjoyed it much. He even made a good friend there. For Junior Music program, we parents have to attend class with the children every week. It almost feels like we are having class as well. So week after week, and I took turns to go to his classes. Somehow after few times,
decided he doesn't want to go class with the son anymore so I was the one going every week.
The class was paced really slowly in the beginning and the boy was enjoying himself singing and playing the songs. But after a while, the class starts to move really fast and that's when the boy loses it. So I decided to buck up and drill him at home. He improved tremendously and all is well. But after a while, I got lazy again (that's why it's never recommended to teach your own kid unless you have a super strong discipline).
I realize I start to lose my patience with him in the class. I feel very bad but he was just not feeling the singing part. Last week, he had the worst week in the class and I was really upset. I guess it was a breaking point and we decided to stop his class. The same week he had a holiday so I practiced with him at home and found out that he could actually sit and focus for an hour! He suddenly told me he wants to have piano class at home. So class at home it is! (I'm not his teacher. We got his former teacher to teach him).
It's bittersweet feeling though as it is our routine for almost a year plus Jaya One is one comfortable mall to hang around at. So I guess today was my last piano class as well :D
