Seriously I can count my real life friends still alive on one hand, each year that passes the number dwindles. None of them are local at all, the closest being an hours drive away and the rest several. Simply put my fiancé(Melissa) and myself(Cam) are pretty well alone in the city surrounded by strangers.
“Make new friends” I can hear you saying, well with all my time spent working or interacting on the blockchain that’s a fairly lost cause. I don’t like to “go out”, I don’t have a need to “party”, generally I don’t care to “speak with people”, I don’t have the time to “hang out” with coworkers nor do I want to spend more than 8hrs in a day with them. When am I supposed to “meet people” nevermind “befriend” them?
Sad thing, this last year I have met more people online and made more digital friends then I have ever had in my entire life!
Why is that sad?
It is sad because I have realized none of my RL friends have any interest in Steem or what I’m doing here, making it so I really have no one to share my experiences with. No one to share this passion for creation. No one to bounce ideas off of and rally for a conclusion.
My fiancé humours me and listens but I know she thinks it’s a waist of my time yet understands how it is a therapeutic outlet for me having seen my recovery and growth first hand. She supports me yet I know she still holds doubts, we love each other but that does not mean we share in all the same interests.
My best buddy signed up but has yet to really do anything but he’s faced with the same dilemma with his fiancé so I understand completely!
My father created an account but the complexities are far past his technical abilities.
Alex my ex-coworker made the account and has made a few posts but gave up shortly after trying for the first times, had to many issues uploading to @DTube and @DSound.
My lead-hand at work said he has created an account but I have not noticed which may be his or has he said anything more then he has an account and watched a vlog or two of mine. Very vague interaction when ever I try bring it up.....
So now you know where I’m coming from maybe you’ll have more understanding as to what I’m thinking.
What if we had a blockchain dApp to meet locals.... k not like the dating kind of meet locals but like coffee dates or something with maps and the whole nine yards. Like Facebook friends but less tracking of your physical location constantly, events maybe you could say.
The idea is obviously incomplete but the point is, I’d love to meet some of you guys! I know there must be more locals if I found Steem & DTube. If I have the desire to meet some locals then some of you must share in that desire with me!?!
Who Here Lives in British Columbia?
More precisely who lives on Vancouver Island? Is there anyone that lives in the same city as me, Victoria?
I said once before I am looking for ways of bringing the joy of creation more directly into my life this year and I cannot see a better way other than a real life interaction with my fellow local Steemians. We could get together and cause a scene all wearing our merch, we could even go to the mall and try sell merch helping to raise awareness for our platform and projects. I like the idea of #OneLoveSteem foot soldiers and I believe in the power behind “word of mouth” at least when tackling the local front.
Putting my ideas out there with this post, that’s how I roll. Manifesting my reality through implementing intentions into creation on the blockchain and hoping they can be realized, adding value how I can with those ideas.
Who Else Believes...
A dApp to meetup with locals or arrange events on chain would be beneficial?
Do you live in British Columbia or on Vancouver Island, or know anyone that does? Tag them in the comments below, let’s see what the locals have to say!
