All minnows dream to be whales. Ok, I know it's not good to generalize so let's just say most minnows dream to be whales, instead.
Funny thing is, while there's a great thing to dream big, it generally doesn't come all at once.
Unless minnows fund their account with 500,000 STEEM over night, they won't be whales for a long time.
And that usually leads to growing frustration and to accusing whales for being... whales. There are only a few hundred whales on Steem, so not every big account is a whale.
In case you are new and you don't really know how this ladder goes, let me break it down for you.
The ladder is based on Steem Power and is very simple:
- below around 500 SP you are a red fish (sometimes also referred as minnows); for accuracy we should talk in VESTS, as
well pointed out in the comment.
- between around 500 SP and 5,000 SP you are a minnow
- between around 5,000 SP and 50,000 SP you are a dolphin
- between around 50,000 SP and 500,000 SP you are an orca
- over around 500,000 SP you are a whale
Now, let's say you are a red fish, not even a minnow, with limited funding possibilities to buy Steem. Should you set a goal to become a whale? Sure, you can dream about it, but it's so far away, so fuzzy, you have no idea how to get there really.
Why not instead set the next step on the ladder as your immediate goal? It's far more achievable! And you'll feel accomplished when you reach it.
For red fish, 500 SP is quite an easy mark to reach, even without money, if you are consistent!
Then, 5,000 SP might seem a lot looking from 500 SP, but it's far better than looking at a dizzying 500,000 SP! So, dolphin may not sound as whale, but they are really nice (to people) and... in the Steem ecosystem, they are one step higher than minnows. One step at a time, and who knows, maybe we'll talk between us whales some day. :)
