December 2017 was a good time. Upvotes and reward frenzy were everywhere. Even a 500 SP account could dish out good amount of cents. It is because of that scenario that made it a StunFest whenever we come across an account that was giving an upvote worth of $300+.
It was mad. Those days.
It happened to one of my Nigerian mentors. That was how I got to know.
I followed his - the good whale - activities over time and he was the kind of dude I thought about whenever the issue of curation rewards were brought up.
He had sacrificed. A lot.
He once followed Curie's vote a while back. Then he stopped.
The next time I checked on him, he was religiously curating DTube contents. Then he stopped. I hear those folks got issues or I don't know DTube is pretty boring anyways.
He must have tried other sources of ROI in between and I wasn't aware because ..eh.. he's not my dad?
Anyway, I did check on him few minutes ago though after seeing his latest vote value on Ned's latest puppy tears update.
A freaking $0.32 at 100%.
Off I went and boom my worst fears got confirmed. He's caved and now has more shitpower to send shits all the way to trending, accelerate the stomping of this holy grail and live off whatever is left of it.
To be clear. I don't blame the Former Good Samaritan nor Booster. Nah. Instead I praise them for looking out for themselves and making sure that in case of any capsize they will make enough ROI - perhaps even double their original investment - between now and when this Titanic hits the inevitable iceberg that can only be avoided if Steem Inc, witnesses and virtually every other person that gives a fuck about this place comes together and admits that this current reward mechanism is a total failure, support the 50:50 author:curator ratio and prevent the remaining good Good Samaritans from breaking bad and making these our so called "authors" realize how foolish they are not to realize that the only author reward out there is 0%.
Just because we're lucky enough to have folks voting us should not in any way blind us to this fact.
