Yesterday we had our second ever Steem Meet Up in Suriname. It had been over a year since the last one.
In February 2018 was the first time our (very small) Steem community came together and it was about time that we got together again.
To give you an idea how small we are:
- Suriname has a population of less than 600.000, which not a lot considering the country is about the size of the State of Florida
- The steemians present at the meet up represented about 50% of the Surinamese community active on Steem
I decided to do a little get together, but include a small talk with the basics about Steem, Steemit, SBD, Steem Power, minnowsupport, challenges and different steem communities, dapps and tools that could help everyone there to find their way.
Before I could start had already posted the first update of the event (https://steemit.com/partiko/@cryptoplu/second-steemmeet-in-suriname-ewaxehyq) and
also shared a behind the scenes look of the presentation (https://steemit.com/steemmeetup/@jilljoyl81/steem-meetup-gpd3m4q5). It was pretty loud outside (Real Madrid was playing Ajax, who plans a Steem Meet Up during a Champions League match?), so we used the meeting room for the presentation, which was supposed to be just 15 minutes but ended up being almost an hour. It already is paying dividends to some, like
, who decided to reintroduce herself to the Steem platform after being away for over a year (https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@mzsocialssmit/let-me-reintroduce-myself).
Afterwards we headed back out as people wanted to connect and mingle a bit. Not everyone was able to make it, but in total the group was about 18, some came late and some had to leave early. The best part was a guest visit from Maya and Nadira, the CEO and CMO of https://ourox.io/, which for Steemians in Latin America struggling to get to their fiat exchanged to Steem, is a big deal! Currently I would have to exchange my local currency into USD or EUR, than get my money on my US or Dutch bank account, transfer it to a fiat based exchange, buy BTC or another top 6 crypto, transfer it to Binance and buy steem there. Imagine if I could buy Steem directly through my local bankaccount!
, I really wanted to take more photos, but the group photo was the only one I took.
I want to thank everyone for participating:
Other Surinamese steemians that weren’t able to make it:
There are more, but these are the ones I’ve spoken with and have considered to become active (again).
Also a very big shoutout to for including us in his overview. If you want to learn more about upcoming Steem meet ups and events, check out his latest update:
