Marketing on Steemit
The first and second attempts at marketing my book using the Steemit platform were interesting. In fact, I wrote about them here and here. For those just catching up, I did some upvote giveaways for those who resteemed my promotion post, hoping to spread the word of my book beyond my followers. Thank you to those of you who resteemed my articles and bought the book/left a review! If you missed out, there will be more opportunities in the future.
The Most Difficult Resource to Acquire
The cryptocurrency world is flush with great projects in a number of areas. Each one is vying for the greatest resource: attention. Steemit allows us to give (and capture) a monetary value to attention. The steemit model is superior to "traditional" social media because we get a piece of the value that normally would be captured by Mark Zuckerberg. A quick Google search shows that Zuck's net worth is $71 billion.
That's how much your attention is worth on the world's premier social network. Facebook's stock has a $532 billion market cap.
I'm not anti Facebook and I don't begrudge Zuck; I appreciate the innovation they brought to the internet while also recognizing that human beings are flawed, and no perfect system will ever exist that makes everyone rich and successful. But why give away my attention to those who want to monetize me?

Steemit and Attention
Steemit's unique monetary system gives users the opportunity to discover new ways to incentivize one another and interact. There will be an influx of people selling on here: it's inevitable. Early adopters who are creating communities on here are going to be leaders as entrepreneurs discover the unique ways in which they can capture the value of your attention on here. But here's the best part: you're going to share in that value capture as a holder of steem power and user of the platform. Their wins become your wins. We grow this project together.
Steemit is a social media co-op. I'm looking forward to finding and sharing ways of bringing attention and users to this platform. In ten years from now, we'll know who the Gary Vaynerchuks of Steemit are. That person might have 10 followers right now and is hustling to create value for the platform and their followers.
