Facebook exploits us. It hoards our data, it exploits our conversations, it even jumps into the little cracks between our private conversations. Notice that advertisement pop up RIGHT after you've checked out the same thing on Amazon. Yeah. I get that too.
And to add insult to injury it asks us to pay them to reach more of our fans. If we have pages of course. I have several. Facebook tells me, "If you want to reach more of your fans then just pay us a whack load of dollar and we'll go laughing all the way to the bank"
And what does that mean for us?
Diminished news feed. We can't see any of those posts from the pages we like anymore, unless we specifically ask for it. And then that's a competition in itself. Ever wondered why your friend has been quiet for ages? They haven't. It's just hidden from your news feed.
I may be old-school. But I want to be shown what I want - and I don't want a pre-determined algorithm to tell me what I should be watching.
And what do we get in return?
Nothing.
Pay, pay, pay.
Oh wait, we get a nice platform to talk to our friends. OK, there is that. And free games. Yup, there is that too. So maybe not all that bad.
But here we have STEEMIT. Are you just as addicted as me? Do you know what productive things I've done over on Facebook, WordPress and others since then? None. Why? Because I feel rewarded for my participation. I may have only made just shy of $1.00 for my last post - but that matters not, because my voice still gets heard and it's again, more than the exploitation and big fat zero I earned elsewhere.
Hell I have to pay to reach my fans elsewhere now.
This is why this is so different in my opinion.
Rewards for creating worthwhile content? Doesn't that just scream encouragement to pick up a book and read it? Or read an interesting article?
Yeah. Me too.
And I'm fucking addicted.
It's nearly 2am here and all I want to do is create new and engaging content. I love it - and the discussion. The discussion rules. More discussion please!!
Bye bye Facebook, you're a has been :)
