Steemit is the future of social media (and soon to be much more). Good posts get upvoted and are awarded Steem tokens, and those tokens increasingly have real world value. Why? Because your "influence" on the site--that is, how much your vote counts versus other people's votes--is a function of how many Steem tokens you own. And everyone wants to be influential, right?!
Steem tokens are also awarded just for "curating" other posts--that is, for reading other people's content and voting it up or down. How easy is that?! You're already providing this service for free on Facebook, Reddit and other social media sites, right? So...why not get paid for it?
The whole system rewards good content, eliminates trolls, discourages plagiarism, and is effectively uncensorable.
In short, Steemit is the first "killer app" for blockchains, and a social media revolution.
And, now that it's getting coverage in the mainstream media, it's user base, and therefore its content, is set to explode.
