Facebook always takeover something that's better than Facebook and have very high potential or could be a potential threat to Facebook in the future.
Previous Takeovers
Facebook bought Instagram, because it was the best daily photo sharing app.
Facebook bought WhatsApp, because it was the best messaging app.
Facebook copied the concepts of various apps which it failed to acquire.
Facebook copied Story option from Snapchat, which now they have in Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp
Facebook copied group work from Slack.
What Facebook will do in the future?
Even the idea of facebook wasn't original. Its a ripoff of Myspace. But Facebook is doing fine now. It either buy good app that could be a potential tread to Facebook in the future, or copy the idea if it fail to acquire.
But what about steemit?
My prediction is, in 5 years Steemit will be have more users than Facebook (takeover Facebook) or Facebook will start paying it's user like steemit.
