Generally, I write for Steem users who are already here and often for those who are wondering why they should invest, power up or just plain stay. I wrote about Steem in my last post with the aim for it to be more outward facing and shareable as this is what I think is needed running into 2020.
is supporting Reddit and Twitter,
Quora and Twitter and of course there are all kinds of users adding content across the other platforms. What needs to happen is that Steem content is getting traction on the other platforms and while I am not the type of person to create a viral meme, I think that some of my content might hit the mark for some segments of the mainstream population.
You know, I used to dislike a lot of the competitions that got run on Steem because while they are great earners, the content rarely got pushed out with Steem links to the other platforms. This has been changing of late and there are contests like the ones is running powered by
that leverage the #PoSh (Proof of Share) rules to make sure entries go out wider than the Steem ecosystem. I haven't been great at this in the past, but I am trying to up my centralized media game and start using it again to support Steem.
Soon after I joined here, I completely stopped posting on the other SoMe platforms even though I had been very active earlier. The reason wasn't that I didn't earn for my content on them, it was because on Steem I felt that the depth of engagement was better, even though the numbers of users were much lower. What I liked was after putting up a piece of work that I put thought into, people responded with thoughtful replies without the animosity that similar content might get on a mainstream platform.
The problem with the other platforms is that they are already monetized except that the user doesn't take a cut. However, people do keep score and the score is generally made by creating drama, point scoring by cutting others down as there is very little personal status gain from lifting people up. Online, people support people who think like them in the worse way possible, and the most rewarded in the social scoring system are those who attack others.
The reason why polarization of groups is so prevalent on the internet is because the platforms are designed to encourage anger and violence as that s what garners the most attention. And because that attention is then monetized in various ways to profit the central owners, it is in their best interest to keep the anger flowing. While this is good for gathering likes and shares throughout the network, it is not a great position for society and we as a global community are suffering from disconnection and fear of each other in ways that didn't exist earlier.
But, the ecosystem is already in place and designed to share and if we can piggyback Steem messaging on the other platforms and show that there are alternatives that not only give users immutable and wide-ranging freedom, but allow those same users to benefit financially from their activities on the blockchain and be part of the emerging tech economy, I think that slowly but surely adoption and adaption will happen.
There is a critical mass point where once there are enough active users, the ramp up hockey-sticks. If I have to share on nonsense platforms to get to that point, so be it. Hopefully with some of the largest accounts on the platform supporting off-platform activities, more and more shares will go out and thousands f little content funnels will snag users and draw them in.
There might be along way to go, or it might happen very fast with a few viral hits.

Anyway, this is some brief thoughts to cover up me accidentally double posting. I apologize for the cock up.
