The biggest issues I've seen is we have more takers than givers. Also building up how much you make comes from more than just how much you post. It comes from marketing yourself. And the words I don't have time for that I have a normal job is the reason why.
It won't hurt you to stop by discords and chat with people in the communities. Most of the people I see complaining are people who do no curation at all as well as commenting on others content.
- Don't Just link bomb
- Don't Just only talk about yourself
- Post on twitter using Steem tag
- Post on the Steem Reddit
- Post on facebook in open news feed
- Post on outside crypto-based forums
- Get a cheap mic if you don't have one and stop in on some discords and other communities.
- Talking to people in the general chat of steem.chat
There is even discord radio shows you can go on and talk about your self and you contest weekly.
One example is steemit ramble:

This is not a place to spam but its one example of places you can go.
