What Did He Say???
I got you with the cat picture, didn't I? It took a while to find, so I'm glad.
Steem Rewards
"What do you mean, Steem Rewards for authors? Haven't we always gotten those?"
Short answer
Not as long as I've been here.
Long answer
For as long as I've been on Steemit, the rewards for posting have always been either 100% SP OR 50% SP/ 50% SBD.
If you chose the 100% SP option, you would accumulate vested Steem which would take 13 weeks to power down. This option was attractive because when SBD was worth less than $1, SP allowed you to power up your account faster and gain more value.
With the SBD peg broken (SBD worth more than $1), it has made more sense to choose 50/50 on your payout option because you could earn more value by doing so. If you still wanted SP, you could just convert it to Steem using the internal market... and then power up.
Current Situation
One of the first things I do when I log on to Steemit is check my replies... then claim my rewards. Today I noticed something different.
Do you see it on the left end of "Your current rewards"? It says that I have 0.004 STEEM to claim! While that's not much, it's not nothing. (Sorry about the double negative, but as the field never existed until now, it's surprising!)
I hadn't heard about a proposed change, but this could change the payout structure for posting. I don't have information yet on how much Steem we can expect per post, but it's exciting there's another stream of revenue... and this one is liquid.
0.001 Steem per comment at this point. Only 1,000 comment to get a Steem!
Consequences
I apologize for using that taboo word: consequences. But there will be some. Depending on how the Steem payout is calculated, there could be a number of consequences. Most all of them can put downward pressure on pricing.
- If Steem reward is added
If a Steem reward is given in addition to the normal rewards, then expect it to put downward pressure on Steem as there will be more in supply. There could be downward pressure on SBD price as well as there will be more rewards in circulation, causing inflation.
- If SBD is reduced
Expect higher price pressure on SBD and lower price pressure on Steem as there will be a smaller supply of SBD and larger supply of Steem.
- If SP is reduced
There could be downward pressure on Steem price as well as there will be more liquid rewards in circulation, causing inflation. Little to no impact on SBD price.
tl;dr Steemit added Steem rewards to author rewards.
