In my first few weeks on steemit, I experienced some success with a post showing off First Person View, Drone flight.
The profits were minimal, $100. They are enough to question, how best to grow this success.
Three choices come to mind:
- Cash out, re-invest in creative content. (buy FPV equipment for unboxing and reviews). $100 really doesn't go far.
- Use the promote functions on some of the content that I have already produced and hope for similar results
3. Power up

Sticking my toe in the water. In order to get a decent response to this question, I will see what $10 worth of promotion gets. You the reader can judge the effect by watching this post. I am a minnow with a relatively small following. If you are reading this, it probably worked.
Doubled Down
Shortly after posting this, I took the remaining $120ish and Powered up. The process is a bit scary doing it for the first time. It was straight forward and easy.
Conclusion
The promotion got my video in front of a few new followers. With a little creativity, you can promote your own videos with more success and less cost.
Cashing out is good for the short term. I see myself using steemit rather than Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as my go-to social media app. Powering up pays you back slowly over the long run, increases the visibility of your posts, and gives you a stronger voice in the community.
After testing the options, I have concluded that Powering up gives the most return in the long run and invests back into the platform. Disagree? Give me your thoughts in the comment section below.
