Offering $8 in old worn-out currency • (Silver Certificates & a United States Note)
This trio of very tired "off-road" notes are reminders of the changes
our forms of currency have undergone during our lifetimes... particularly for us oldsters born during the "silver era".
These I actually acquired at a local bank not too long ago.. and don't have the heart to spend them and I don't really need to keep 'em.. so maybe a fellow Steemian can use 'em as a cool stocking-stuffer.
For my purposes I'd like to convert them to crypto!.. so I'll be happy with any reasonable exchange just so long as i can get more STEEM!
All these notes are extremely common types and and very low grade, so they are of minimal numismatic value.
Although these poor chaps have been folded for decades and spent on who knows what, the main saving grace is that none of them show any holes nor tears! The fiver is a bit soiled and stained and the two-spot has the best paper quality. They look cool just layin' around.. but they are ready to transfer to another human.
They are:
• $1 Silver Certificate - Series 1957 B
• $2 United States Note - Series 1963 A
• $5 Silver Certificate - Series 1953 A

Note the lack of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST of the 5-dollar note. This was added in '63
When issued, the two blue-seal Silver Certificates represented silver dollars that were deposited in the U.S. Treasury (yeah sure) while the red-seal $2 United States Note represents... nothing! That's 'cause United States Notes were the original FIAT currency produced by the USA as a Federally issued note beginning and during the War Between the States in 1861. Along with Legal Tender Notes, the treasury was kept solvent with ready cash to finance the war... all backed by... nothing, but I digress.
