TRUE PROSPERITY
3John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
The above scripture is one of the popular Bible verses used to preach the desire of GOD for Christians to prosper in the world. Usually, emphasis is laid on the first part of the text whiles we neglect the rest.
It is very true that GOD wants us to prosper in our business, finances, marriage, academics, ministry, etc but not at the detriment of our soul.
A soul which is on its way to eternal destruction cannot be said to have prospered.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Matthew 16:26)
True prosperity is not about how much you gather on earth but what you are able to lay up for yourself in heaven.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matthew 6:19).If you die today, where will you spend eternity?
The number of years you may prosper on earth cannot be compared to the eternal pain you will experience in hell.
The Bible says that the rich man enjoyed on earth but was tormented in fire and couldn't get just a drop of water to quench his thirst (Luke 16:24).
As you seek good things on earth, keep an eye on your salvation.
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: (Revelation 3:17)
