Happy Sunday steemians, today i'll be writing my first post for . This message is talking more to me because of my nature and i feel if i can share i may help myself and maybe someone out there.
Forgiveness is the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as vengefulness, with an increased ability to wish the offender well.
Forgiveness is different from condoning (failing to see the action as wrong and in need of forgiveness), excusing (not holding the offender as responsible for the action), forgetting (removing awareness of the offense from consciousness), pardoning and reconciliation (restoration of a relationship).
BUT WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT FORGIVENESS:
In the New Testament, Jesus speaks of the importance of Christians forgiving or showing mercy towards others. Jesus used the parable of the unmerciful servant (Matthew 18:21-35) to say that we should forgive without limits.
LUKE 15: 11-32 gives a detailed analogy about mistakes human makes and ability to actually forgive.MATTHEW 5:17 the famous "sermon on a mount" clearly states that "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."LUKE 6:36 (NIV) "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."MATTHEW 18:21-22 (NKJV) "Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."
And many others have been said like that, but most people find it hard to do because we have been hurt and need a way to channel our anger. When we do not forgive we give ourselves extra baggage to carry.
CONSEQUENCES OF UNFORGIVING SPIRIT
The inability to forgive can compromise mental health. For some elderly people, forgiveness requires reflecting on a transgression to avoid repeating wrongdoings, individuals seek to learn from these transgressions in order to improve their relationship with others. When individuals are successful at learning from these transgressions, they may experience improved mental health.
Majorly, when we do not forgive others, we risk our own forgiveness from God because Luke 6:37 (NIV) "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."
There are a lots of benefits involved in forgiving;
- karma works in your favour
- spiritual growth
- you have more time to do meaningful things
- you improve your health
- you set an example
So the next time someone offends you, talk to the holy spirit cause only he can help you and watch him console you.
Let go and let your life be brighter today.
Thanks everyone, see you all next time.
