John 13 vs 1-5
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
How would we do a thing if we know that will probably be our last activity on earth?
We will definitely do it With all power, strength and zeal. Great lessons can be learnt in this passage, which is towards the end of Christ’s ministry on earth.
Jesus knew His hour had come. He also knew that the Father had given all things into His hand and He knew where He came from and where He was going.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is all-knowing.
We today should not be ignorant of God's will for us. We should know that our soul is from God and to Him shall we return
Jesus knowing also led to Jesus loving. “... having loved His own, He loved them to the end”. Loving to the end means loving at the expense of His life.
This love had been evident throughout His lifetime and continued to the end was manifested in full extent at crucifixion.
The same love that is evident in 'laying down of life' at crucifixion was also manifested in 'laying down of life' in humble service when washing the feet of His disciples.
Knowledge, love' and service are the hallmark of Christ's ministry on earth and the same should be ours. His teachings brought knowledge and light. His healing and caring ministry was borne out of love and He served others humbly too. These are great lessons for us as children of God.
We must grow in grace and knowledge of Christ and His words. We must demonstrate love to all; and that at a cost to us. We must love sacrificially, be willing to be 'poured out upon His altar' and to be 'broken as bread to feed the hungry'.
If we truly know, we must show love. and be willing to ‘lay down our lives' in humble service to God and fellow man.
Like Jesus, we must endeavour to know, love and serve.
The Steemchurch embodies the hallmark of Christ's ministry, the Church is a citadel for learning, providing spiritual and physical growth. It is a community where we support one another through whatever means available.
The Steenchurch was founded by cus of his love and desire to help others, we are still small and growing at a very amazing pace.
Just like Christ, the Motto of the Steemchurch is:
