When the Wind Blows, Sleep Soundly
Long time ago, An old farmer owned some portion of land along the Atlantic seacoast. Since he couldn't work on the land along, he opted to get someone who would work with him. He placed adverts looking for hired hands.
All those who applied for the job were afraid of the awful wind and storm that raged through the Atlantic, causing a lot of havoc on plantations, crops and nearby shelters.
As the interview went on, none of the applicants accepted the job, he kept receiving stream of refusals. When he was about giving up, a man came to him, he was short, thin, middle aged , then the farmer asked him
Are you a good farm hand?
Well, I can sleep when the wind blows - The short man replied
The farmer was puzzled by the answer, but since he was in need of a helper , he hired the man.
The man was very hard working he kept the farm tidy, he was busy day and night, and the farmer was impressed and satisfied with his work. Then came the storm one night, The wind was swirling and howling so hard and loud.
The farmer jumping out of his bed, took a lamp and went straight to his employee"s sleeping quarters. Waking the man up and yelling,
Get Up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!
The little man was reluctant to stand up, still rolling over on his bed, he told the farmer firmly
No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.
Angry and infuriated by his response, the farmer wanted to fire him immediately. But instead he went outside to check out the farm and start preparations for the storm. On getting there, to his amazement, he found out all the haystacks have been gathered and wrapped up with a tarpaulin. The cows were lying calmly in their barn, The chickens and hen were safe in their coops and the doors jammed and locked firmly. Everything was secured and no wind could blow them away.
Here on the farmer got to understand what the little man meant when he told him he could sleep when the wind blows, with that he went back to bed and slept safely while the wind kept blowing.
Some Questions We Should Ask Ourselves As Christians
Can you sleep when the wind blows?
What preparations have you made for the storm?
Are you going to wait for the storm to come before you start preparations?
When we get answers to this questions, then and then we have made up our minds and we are prepared for every storm that might come to blow us away. Preparation is the only way to withstand a storm, getting prepared spiritually, mentally and even physically, will outwit every fear we might be conceiving.Because in Philippians 4:6-7 we are told to prayer along with thanksgiving,
Do not be anxious over anything but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be known to God.
And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.
This passage goes on to tell us that when we are prepared we have Nothing to fear because God will gives us his peace that surpasses all understanding.
In the account of Matthew 8 :23-27 here it further explains when Jesus was in a boat sleeping and a great storm arose in the sea, the boat was almost covered by the waves. His disciple ran to him and woke him up ,saying master save us we are about to perish, but replied to them Why are you so afraid, you with little faith, then he rebuked the wind and the sea was calm again. Jesus is ever ready to calm every storm in our lives when we go to him prayers and stand prepared. Today those storm are the trials and adversities we're facing today but with faith we can overcome all of them by the power of the most high.
So the question still stands Can you sleep when the wind blows?
