We live in a world were many do not care about the way they live their lives. To make matters worst, they do not care about the opinions of others. It is really sad to see a world filled with so much injustices. Even if you do not believe a creator exists, is it right to live a wayward lifestyle? Morality is something uncommon in many places today. But who does your lifestyle actually affect? Who gains when you live a responsible lifestyle? These are just some of the questions that will be answered in this week's discussion session.
Someone with good manners can easily be identified in a crowd filled with people from various ethnic backgrounds, this is because a person like that will always standout. Living in a country with economic problems, you see employees stealing from their employers. When they interact with friends you hear something like, "he doesn't even pay me well". They act as if they are trying to even things with a stingy employer, even when this is not true. That is why when a company finds a sincere employee, it's very difficult to let him off. Even when the employer is reducing the number of staffs he has. This answers the first question, our lifestyle actually affects us as individuals, either for good or bad.
If your lifestyle is affecting you badly, there is still time to change. Such bad thoughts should be cleared, especially the thoughts of stealing. When thefts are analysed most times, you find out that most of the persons involved are not really extremely poor. They are just people who want to live above their paychecks. Live is greater than just a moment. Before involving in an activity, one should ask himself (or herself), what kind of name will I be making? A good or a bad one? Examining our minds from time to time actually helps. It helps adjust your thinking.
Let's see what one of the wisest books ever written says about this, Proverbs 4: 18,
But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day. - ASV
This shows our actions reflects on others, when we do good it is seen by others. Even deeds that are not noticed by men, are noticed by the creator. Good qualities are what attracts friends.
Proverbs 11: 11 adds,
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
This further shows the results of a person's actions. This proverbs means that a good person's speech influences people and make them glad. But that of a person that involves himself in wicked activities brings down the the gladness in the hearts of many.
What ever you do in life has it's own rewards. Many neglect this, and regret later on. When people know you for the good that you do, there's this good feeling that often goes with it.
I wrote an article some time ago, it was about humility. You can check it out Why Humble People Are Treasured. There I talked about why humility is so valued in the world today. Something that is rare is usually very valued though.
