After a pastor finished preaching a sermon on disappointment, several members of the congregation approached him with similar reactions: “I desperately needed to hear those words.” Most people usually feel defeated by certain situations. However, the manner a person responds can make all the difference. Frustrations or struggle in life can be an opportunity for either spiritual growth or destruction.
One of the key response to disappointments commences with the resistance to the natural inclination towards bitterness. Also if someone else is involved in such circumstances, do not be rapid to judge their conduct. Most at times, we can not fully comprehend what goes on in the lives of others, and the motivations to their actions.
The second step is to ask the Lord, “How am I to respond?” God can and is always willing to guide us to a righteous and wise reaction.
Thirdly, we ought to follow God's directions, even when the directions are not what we want. The ways of God usually contradicts our personal desires as well as some of advices of our friends. However, the plans of God are the ones that will bring about the growth and results in our greatest good.
And fourth, fix your focus on God and His higher purposes in your life. People are very prone to dwell on the hurts and the harms that come their way, which is what makes disappointment experience so destructive.
There are many ways on how to deal with disappointments, however pursuing the will of God is the only one that truly satisfies. Human plans can be derailed, whereas nothing can alter God’s purpose. It doesn't matter how deep your hurt is, God shall willingly shepherd you through setbacks and sorrows in life while growing your faith.
