The book of Amos in his chapter 7.7-9 tells us about the vision of a plumb line seen by the prophet Amos where the Lord shows him a wall made of lead and on the wall was the Lord and in his hand held a plumb of mason
and God says what do you see Amos? and I said, a plumb-line of a mason, and the lord said, Behold, I put a mason's plumb in the midst of my people Israel, I will not endure it any more.
The high places of Isaac will be destroyed and the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste and I will rise with a sword over the house of Jeroboam
These verses obviously refer to God's judgment on his people Israel and for this purpose God gives a vision to the prophet and uses as a reference a plumb line on a built wall
It is important to note that the plumb line serves to draw an imaginary line and in this case God was showing the prophet that his people Israel has been built according to the standards of God, now it will be measured or tested with the same standard, what the Mr. explain is that Israel would be judged as the covenant people, because it had been tried and found lacking
The people of God Israel had perverted themselves away from God, they had left the norms and statutes ordained by God and now they were worthy of judgment
Remember that the word of God tells us that judgment will come first through your house and we are now the new grafted Israel
"He came to his own and they did not receive him, but to all who received him who believe in his name, he gave him power to become children of God" (John 1:12).
Therefore as God's children we will also be judged by God through line of the best mason and judge of all history according to our actions
We should never be surprised by God's judgment because we know what his commandments are his word and what is revealed to each one of us
Our Lord Jesus Christ always announced what was to come for his people and the nations, therefore he will announce any judgment with sufficient anticipation to give his people an opportunity to repent and turn from their sin
