Firstly what is Ego?
Ego is simply a sense of one's self esteem or self importance. Its all about the word "I"
and "me",i am smart, i am better than you, i am so rich. So many word's about self uses "me" or " i" which is very much ok depending on how it used.
Ego has its good and bad side depends on how the individual handles it. Remember self confidence is good and self-worth is important but the minute you care about your opinion alone, you become selfish and Egocentric.
Many relationship have suffered severe crises and eventual brake up because of an egocentric disposition.Relationship in general needs a lot of respect to make it work,and if respect is vital then analysing opinions and accepting good counsel is a must for a healthy relationship.
How can Ego destroy
Someone who is Egocentric can be termed proud or strong headed and they mostly don't listen to advice. Ego has the ability to destroy both businesses and relationships.
Most business owner have seen their businesses fold up because they refuse to accept ideas and advice from people, some may even be their staffs.
Business owners have a sense of been flawless because it took hard work for them to put up a business plan, work out the business model and also structure the business, as far they are concerned you can't teach them anything your opinion is useless.
But as time ticks those with listening ears flow with the trend and their business evolves according to time. This set of business men have self confidence but they are not egocentric they listen, meditate and implement suggestions.
While the egocentric ones stick to their old ideas and ways of doing things and in no time the business crumbles.These consequences is also applicable to marriages most marriages suffer because of an egocentric partner always feeling he or she is perfect and flawless.
A man is a leader and not a boss or a dictator he is meant to be reasonable and also a good listener.The woman is a help meet,she is suppose to assist the man and also advise him when needed.
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Genesis 2:18
Even if she is wealthier her ego should be in check as a wife and a woman same with the man because ego can destroy that beautiful marriage.And sometimes its not just about wealth or intelligence it's just the inability to build character.
An egocentric person never takes corrections but wants to correct others, they easily get irritated by the weekness of others,always speaks about their achievement not to encourage but intimidate,they hardly say words like am sorry, i love you and i miss you.
Ego is the only requirement to destroy any relationship.
If been with an egocentric person makes you feel worthless don't hate him/her just set boundaries.
